Maize: Hundreds of people have died during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage amid scorching heat in Saudi Arabia. Giving information about this, Saudi officials said that people are trying to collect the bodies of their loved ones. Saudi Arabia has not commented on the number of people who died due to heat during Hajj, nor has it given the reason for the deaths. However, hundreds of people stood in line at the emergency complex in Al-Muaisam near Mecca, trying to get information about their missing family members.
Why did the death occur?
A list circulating online shows at least 550 people have died during the five-day hajj. A doctor who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity said the list appeared to be genuine. Another official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said he believed at least 600 people had died. The list did not give any cause of death.

Temperatures in Mecca and sites around the city reached 47 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to the Saudi National Meteorology Center. Some people were seen fainting while trying to pelt the devil with stones. About 2,000 hajj pilgrims were being treated for heat illness, according to Saudi authorities. AFP journalists in Mina, outside Mecca, saw pilgrims pouring bottles of water on their heads on Monday while volunteers handed out cold drinks and ice cream to keep them cool. Saudi authorities had advised pilgrims to use umbrellas, drink plenty of water and avoid going out in the sun during the hottest hours of the day. (AP)
