Bangladesh Students Protest: After the violence that erupted in Bangladesh over the reservation issue, a large number of Indian students are returning to their home country. So far more than 1000 students have returned. But meanwhile the question also arises that what kind of studies do Indian students go to Bangladesh to study, which is not available in India. Actually, a large number of students from India, Nepal and Bhutan go to Bangladesh to study medicine.
Rahul Rai, a Nepali student studying at Rangpur Medical College in Bangladesh, after coming to India via Tripura, said that the situation in Bangladesh is bad. Clashes with security forces are taking place everywhere. Another student said that most of the students coming from Bangladesh are studying medicine there.
Prakriti, a student who returned from Bangladesh, said that she is studying MBBS from a medical college in Bangladesh.
Actually, there is Brahmanbaria Medical College in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, adjacent to the border of Tripura. Around 80 Indian students are studying medicine here. Apart from Brahmanbaria, a large number of Indian students are also studying in Ghatula Medical College in the same area. There are also students from Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh here.
Due to violence in Bangladesh, Indian students are returning to India through various ICPs (Integrated Check Posts) including Tripura. Indian and foreign students studying in Bangladesh are returning to India as the agitation demanding reservation has now turned violent. Till Saturday, about 100 students including those from Nepal have returned with valid documents. The process of arrival of students is still going on.
BSF personnel are closely monitoring the situation across the border for the return of the students. BSF has made all necessary arrangements including food and transportation at the ICP to facilitate the smooth arrival of these students and their further movement to their destination. BSF, Tripura Frontier said that more students are expected to return home from Bangladesh.
