airline Company Akasa Air said on Monday that it has canceled 10 flights in two days. The airline did not disclose the reasons for the flight cancellation. But sources said the company is facing shortage of trained pilots. However, Akasa Air claimed that there is no shortage of pilots. Various social media users reported the cancellation of Akasa Air flights. “The cancellation of flights is an ‘unusual’ situation,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused due to cancellation of some flights on February 11-12, 2024,” he said. This was not a normal situation.
10 flights canceled in 2 days
The spokesperson said that 10 flights have been canceled in two days. Sources said the company is not getting enough ‘slots’ to train the pilots joining it. As a result there is a shortage of trained pilots. When asked about this, the airline said that there is no shortage of pilots. Akasa Air Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vinay Dubey said in the statement, “I would like to clarify that we have no shortage of pilots. Akasa Air has a strong staff of more than 600 pilots, enough to operate more than twice the size of our current fleet.” Akasa Air was scheduled to begin operations in August 2022. The company is expanding its operations.
SpiceJet laid off 1400 employees
On the other hand, SpiceJet has laid off 1400 employees. This is about 15 percent of the total workforce of the company. The company has taken this step to attract investors amid the financial crisis. This airline has around 9000 employees, who operate 30 airplanes. According to the report of Economic Times, these cuts have been made by the company as per the operational needs. The airline is currently paying a salary of Rs 60 crore per month. SpiceJet was delaying the payment of salaries for the last several months.
