What is camel pox which troubles camels in summer and rain, get treatment immediately

Sirohi. The main animal of Rajasthan is the camel. This ship of the desert needs a lot of care during the rains. Camels suffer from camel pox during the humid season of summer and rain. The animal husbandry department is constantly organizing camps and making animal keepers aware and training them so that camels can be protected from diseases.

National Camel Research Center Bikaner is trying to increase the income of livestock farmers in the tribal areas of the district under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). Center scientist Dr. Shyam Sundar Chaudhary says that livestock farmers should have complete knowledge of reproduction, breeding, health, diet nutrition, maintenance of animals. Especially seriousness should be taken towards the health of animals, so that losses can be avoided.

Avoid Camel Pox
In this entire area, the outbreak of skin disease has been observed more in camel tordies aged one to two years. Camel pox is prone to occur in children aged 6 months to 2 years in summer and rainy season. This disease lasts for 2-4 weeks. Once this disease occurs, immunity develops against it. In this disease, small pimples appear around the lips, anus, genitals and feet of the camel. These are called papules. Sometimes even after the disease is cured, the legs remain trembling. The camel becomes very weak. It stops eating fodder and has fever.

Isolate sick camels
It is important for livestock owners to take necessary measures to prevent seasonal diseases. In case of camel pox, the sick camel should be separated from other camels and examined at the nearest veterinary centre. Calamine lotion should be applied on the camel’s wet wound, while povidone iodine, antiseptic ointment should be applied on dry wounds.

911 animal check up
Animal health camp and Krishak Scientist Samvad program was organized in Achpura of the district under the Tribal Sub Plan. More than 135 farmers including about 62 women actively participated in it. A total of 911 animals including 243 camels, 131 cows, 122 buffaloes, 415 sheep and goats brought to the medical camp were examined. Vaccines were administered to prevent Sarra (Tibarsa) disease in camels. Center scientists took 49 samples for examining the blood, skin and Mingani of the animals. Center Director Dr. RK Sawal said that to promote animal husbandry business, relevant information is given through seminars, so that animal breeders can take advantage of it.
