Bengaluru. CM Siddaramaiah of the state’s Congress government seems to be surrounded in an alleged scam related to Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has given permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah in the MUDA scam. The governor gave permission to prosecute CM Siddaramaiah after consulting legal experts in this matter. Earlier, he had sought the cabinet’s opinion on prosecuting Siddaramaiah in the MUDA scam case. After the meeting on Thursday, the cabinet had advised the governor to withdraw the show cause notice. The Siddaramaiah cabinet had also described the MUDA scam as an attempt to destabilize the government.
After receiving many complaints of Muda scam, the Governor has ordered to prosecute the CM. The complainants including TJ Abraham, who works against corruption, had sought permission to prosecute under the Anti-Corruption Act, Indian Civil Defence Code. The complainants allege that under the Muda scam, Karnataka’s government treasury suffered a loss of Rs 45 crore. They had demanded to prosecute Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvati, son and Muda Commissioner. The allegation is that Muda acquired 3 acres 16 guntas of land belonging to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife. In return, 14 sites were given to her in expensive areas.

The matter is that MUDA started a scheme for those who lost land in urban development. Under this scheme, such people were to be given 50 percent of the developed land. This scheme was implemented in 2009 and in 2020 the then BJP government of Karnataka stopped the scheme. It is alleged that even after the scheme was stopped, MUDA acquired and allotted land. CM’s wife Parvati was also benefited. This was Parvati Siddaramaiah’s land in Kesare, outside Mysore. Which was gifted by her brother Mallikarjuna Swamy in 2010. MUDA is accused of giving 14 sites in Vijayanagar 3 and 4 phases in exchange for Parvati’s land.
