Israel Hamas War: After turning Gaza into a crematorium, what other dangerous plans is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu making that even America is scared to know about? According to Reuters report, several US officials have expressed apprehension in an internal report that Israel may violate international law in Gaza. However, there is no clarity about how and what this violation will be. But this claim of American officials has definitely created a stir in the world.
According to the report, some US officials have said in an internal memo that Israel may be violating international law in Gaza. Several senior US officials have advised Secretary of State Antony Blinken that they do not find Israel’s assurances “credible or credible” that it is using US-supplied weapons in accordance with international humanitarian law. This statement comes after it has been reviewed by an internal group of the US State Department.
Other officials maintained support for Israel’s representation.
Under a National Security Memorandum (NSM) issued by US President Joe Biden in February, Blinken must report to Congress by May 8 on whether he finds Israel’s assurances credible that US weapons are being used by Israel in such a manner, Which does not violate international law. At least 7 bureaus of the State Department had sent their initial “option memorandum” in this regard to Antony Blinken on March 24 itself. Some parts of the memo have been classified that have not been previously reported. The submissions in the memo provide the most comprehensive picture yet of the division inside the State Department over whether Israel may be violating international humanitarian law in Gaza. However, a US official said, “Some components of the department supported accepting Israel’s assurances. Some called for rejecting them and some took no position.”
Suspension of weapons will cause problems
Despite fears of Israel violating international laws, the bureau said in its report that any suspension of US arms sales would invite “provocations” by Iran and allied militias. That means America will continue to provide arms to Israel. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the agency does not comment on leaked documents. “On complex issues, the secretary often hears a variety of views from within the department and he takes all of those views into account,” Miller said.
