Deepak Pandey/Khargone. Our body is made up of five elements. Water is one of them. It is difficult to survive without water. To fulfill this, many water sources including rivers, ponds, stepwells, wells, borings, hand pumps have been created. From these water sources, water passes through the pipeline and reaches our homes through taps.
But, have you ever wondered whether the water you are drinking from the tap has expired? Now you might be wondering whether water also has any expiry date? Yes, even tap water has an expiry date. Your head will spin after hearing the expert’s answer!
real expiry date of water
Lab technician Kharak Singh Maurya, who has 21 years of experience in the PHE department, said that if the tap water in homes is filtered, then this water can be used only for 4 to 5 days, after which the water gets expired. Whereas if unfiltered water has come directly from the water source, it can be used only for 2 to 3 days. After this the water becomes unfit for drinking.
How does water expire?
Kharak Singh Maurya said that when water is stored in a vessel or tank for a long time, its bacteria start growing, which is harmful for our health. Drinking water contaminated with bacteria can damage many body parts. Bacteria are already present in the water that comes directly, hence it is not right to store and use it for a long time.
Testing every hour in the lab
Actually, Public Health Engineering Department (PHE Department) operates in village Jalud, 55 km away from Khargone district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh. This department is under Indore Municipal Corporation. The thirst of lakhs of people of Indore, the financial capital of the state, is quenched by the Narmada water sent from here. Here water is tested every hour in the lab. The department’s SDO Nirmal Kanade and lab technician Kharak Singh Maurya not only told Local 18 about the expiry of the water, but also tested the purity of the water.
Disadvantages of boring water
Fluoride and hardness are found more in boring water. Drinking water without purifying it increases stomach related diseases in the body. Bones become crooked, children’s teeth turn yellow. The child growing in the stomach of a pregnant woman can also face problems, hence it is important to drink purified water. Drinking water from any reservoir should contain 0.22 mm chlorine.
purity testing standards
Lab technician Kharak Singh Maurya said that different parameters have been fixed for the purity of water. This includes Temperature, Color, Turbid, BPH, Harmless, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride, Farspeed, Sulphate, Iron, Nitrogen, Nitride, TDS, Chlorine, MPN, DO, BOD, COD.
pH value of potable water
If the pH level in filtered water is between 7.0 to 8.5 then the water is drinkable. Where unfiltered water has come directly from the water source, its pH value is between 6.5 to 9.2, then the water can be drunk. TDS should not exceed Rs 500.
