New Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Supreme Court said that this case raises a big question about the safety of doctors across India. CJI Chandrachud’s bench said that it has taken suo motu cognizance. The CJI said that if women are not able to go to work and the working conditions are not safe, then we are depriving them of equality.

Let us tell you that on August 9, the body of the doctor was found inside the seminar hall in the chest department of RG Kar Hospital, on which there were marks of serious injuries. Kolkata Police arrested a person the next day in connection with this incident. On August 13, the Calcutta High Court ordered the investigation of this case to be handed over from Kolkata Police to the CBI and the CBI started the investigation on August 14. The High Court, while hearing several petitions including that of the deceased’s parents, handed over the investigation of this case to the CBI. The deceased’s parents had requested for an investigation to be conducted under the supervision of the court.
