WhatsApp has once again banned a record number of Indian users’ accounts. Meta’s instant messaging platform has banned the accounts of more than 71 lakh Indian users in the month of April. Meta has released a compliance report under the new IT Rules 2021. WhatsApp’s parent company Meta said that the company has banned the accounts of 7.1 million i.e. 71 lakh Indian users. Meta said in its statement that in the month of April, accounts of 71,82,000 Indian users have been banned under local rules, out of which 13,02,000 are such accounts which have not been reported by any user.

Meta has banned these WhatsApp accounts due to violation of the company’s privacy policy. Let us tell you that Meta’s instant messaging app has more than 550 million users in India. The company has received a total of 10,554 grievances from users in the month of April, out of which remedial action has been taken by WhatsApp on only 6.
WhatsApp said in its monthly compliance report that the company has also complied with two orders given by the Indian Grievance Appellate Committee. Releasing the report, the company said that we will maintain similar transparency in our future reports and share information about our every action. The company said that similar action will be taken against users who violate the company’s privacy policy.
79 lakh accounts were banned in March
WhatsApp had earlier banned a record 79 lakh accounts in the month of March. The company had received a total of 12,782 complaints in the month of March, out of which action was taken on 11. The company said that it has a large team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers and experts in law enforcement to monitor the accounts of Indian users and resolve complaints. The company constantly strives for online safety and technology developments of users.
WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has previously removed 17 million or 1.7 crore obscene content from Facebook and Instagram. Meta has shared this information in its April compliance report. The company received 17,124 complaints on Facebook in the month of April, out of which 9,977 cases were resolved. Apart from this, a total of 12,924 complaints were received on Instagram, out of which 5,941 complaints were resolved.
