After the independence of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the Prime Minister. However, in the year 1975, a section of the army revolted against him. The army officers killed Mujibur Rahman along with 18 members of his family. After this, there was a huge political upheaval in Bangladesh and military rule continued in the country for the next several years.
How was Sheikh Hasina’s life saved?
In fact, 15 days before the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Hasina and her sister left the country and went to Germany. Hasina was in Germany with her husband MA Wazed Mia. Her husband was a nuclear scientist and was doing research after PhD. There, he got information about the murder of the entire family.
India gave asylum
After the murder of Sheikh Hasina’s entire family, the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi assured her of protection and shelter in India. After this, Sheikh Hasina reached New Delhi with her family. Hasina’s family was kept under tight security to protect them from any danger. They were given a house on Pandara Road in Delhi. Her husband also stayed with Hasina. After living in India for about 6 years, Sheikh Hasina returned to Bangladesh in 1981.
