New Delhi. Instead of ending the hijab row that started in a government college in Karnataka in January this year, it is increasing continuously. The controversy over hijab started when some Muslim girls were not allowed to wear hijab in a government college in Udupi. When the school management stopped the girls, calling the hijab a violation of the uniform code, then demonstrations started regarding it. Gradually, this dispute started spreading in other places of Karnataka as well. Finally, the Karnataka government came forward in the controversy and banned the hijab in educational institutions. After this decision of the government, this dispute reached the court. The supporters of hijab reached the Karnataka High Court regarding the matter against the decision of the government. However, the High Court had shocked the hijab supporters by dismissing the petition demanding wearing of hijab in class. After this the matter reached the Supreme Court, but a day before, during the hearing in the case, no decision could be reached due to the difference of opinion of the judges. In such a situation, the ban on hijab will continue in the institutions for the time being.
Muslim Personal Law Board made this appeal to the government
Now the Muslim Personal Law Board has come to the fore in the midst of this controversy that broke out in the hijab. The Muslim Personal Law Board has also appealed to the Karnataka government to end this dispute. The board has asked the Karnataka government to withdraw its order banning the wearing of hijab in educational institutions. If the government withdraws its decision, the dispute will end. Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani said, ‘The Government of Karnataka is requested to withdraw the order related to the hijab. If the Karnataka government withdraws this order, then the entire dispute will automatically end.
Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, taking the name of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, said that Justice Dhulia’s order is in accordance with the Constitution and the principles of personal liberty. He focused on promoting the education of girls and how to remove the barriers in their education. As such, his decision deserves to be welcomed.
For your information, let us tell you that a day ago there was a hearing in the Supreme Court regarding this matter. Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia differed on the matter. Justice Hemant Gupta upheld the decision of the Karnataka government to ban hijab in educational institutions in the case. So on the other hand, Justice Dhulia had said that he does not agree with it. Muslim girls also have full right to education and they cannot be stopped by any order. Now it has been recommended to send this matter to a larger bench for decision, after which this matter will now be heard by the Supreme Court Bench of 3 judges.
