New Delhi: Famous film star Amitabh Bachchan’s wife and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan was upset that she was called ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in the Rajya Sabha. A day later, on Tuesday, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar replied to Jaya Bachchan and gave her a befitting reply. Dhankhar clarified that Jaya Bachchan’s name is ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in the Rajya Sabha records. In such a situation, she was called by the same name, which is recorded in her election certificate and Rajya Sabha records.
‘Don’t women have any achievements of their own?’
Earlier on Monday, Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan was furious when Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh called out her full name during a discussion on the budget. The Deputy Chairman addressed her as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’. On this, Jaya said that if she had just said Jaya Bachchan, that would have been enough. It is worth noting that Jaya Bachchan is a Rajya Sabha MP from the Samajwadi Party. Jaya Bachchan said that ‘according to this new trend, women will be known by their husband’s name, as if they have no achievements of their own.’ However, the Deputy Chairman interrupted Jaya at the same time and said that you have many achievements.
Jaya Bachchan was given the reply as soon as the proceedings of the House began
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar replied to Jaya Bachchan when the proceedings of the House began on Tuesday. The Chairman termed this resentment as unjustified and said that your name is written as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in the official records. In such a situation, this name was called. However, Jaya Bachchan was not in the Rajya Sabha at the time when the Chairman was giving this information. Completing his point, the Chairman said that you all know that Deputy Chairman Harivansh ji is known as a very simple and rule-abiding person. The Chairman informed the Rajya Sabha and said, “The Deputy Chairman had called her ‘Smt. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ for the discussion on July 29. On this, the honorable member expressed her objection and said that she should be called only as Jaya Bachchan.
The chairman said – ‘This is your name in the record’
According to Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Jaya’s name is written as ‘Smt. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in her election certificate and gazette notification. In view of this, it is expected from the incumbent Chairman that he should call the names of the members according to the gazette notification. When Deputy Chairman Harivansh called Jaya’s name to join the discussion, he said ‘Smt. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’, due to which Jaya Bachchan got angry. She said that if only Jaya Bachchan was said, that would have been enough. In response to this, Deputy Chairman Harivansh said that here on record your full name is ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’.
