New Delhi: Former BJP MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja on Saturday stirred a controversy when he linked the Wayanad landslide to the practice of cow slaughter in Kerala. The former Rajasthan MLA said such disasters will continue in areas where cow slaughter is prevalent.
The senior BJP leader claimed, “Since 2018, we have noticed a pattern where such tragic incidents occur in areas involved in cow slaughter.” He further warned, “If cow slaughter is not stopped, similar tragedies will continue to happen in Kerala.”
CPI General Secretary hit back
He said that states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh also face natural disasters like cloudburst and landslides, but the level of destruction is not as severe as in Wayanad. Reacting to BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja’s remarks, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja said that the BJP is trying to make the entire tragedy ‘communal’.
D Raja further said, “A tragedy has happened and people are suffering. Our and many other parties are working to help people – financially, by supplying relief material and shelter. People need food, shelter and medicines. The BJP is trying to communalise the whole situation.”
