New Delhi. Chief Minister of the country’s capital Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail for more than a month. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team arrested him after a long interrogation. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Arvind Kejriwal has challenged the legality of his arrest by ED in the court. After not getting relief from the trial court and Delhi High Court, he has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Amidst all this, Kejriwal had demanded immediate relief for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. His demand was heard in the apex court. The Supreme Court can give its verdict today on the interim bail of CM Arvind Kejriwal. Let us tell you that voting is to be held for 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi also. Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also in the election fray.
The Supreme Court completed the hearing in this regard on Monday and reserved its decision. While ED strongly opposed the granting of interim relief by filing an affidavit on Thursday, CM Arvind Kejriwal’s legal team has said that filing the affidavit after the completion of the hearing was wrong. At the same time, on Thursday, ED filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court and strongly opposed the granting of interim bail to the Delhi CM. ED said in the affidavit that it would not be right to grant interim bail for election campaign. Granting interim bail for election campaign is neither a constitutional nor a fundamental right nor a legal right. The investigating agency said in its affidavit that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is not even contesting the elections.
