New Delhi: Foreign guests have been arriving in Delhi since Saturday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi. So far, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Seychelles Vice President Ahmed Afeef have reached New Delhi on Saturday and Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagannath have reached New Delhi on Sunday morning. Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda, Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay, Sri Lanka President Ranil Vikram Singhe are also expected to reach shortly.
Muizzu has come to India for the first time after becoming the President of Maldives in November last year. Muizzu and Jugnauth are among the leaders of India’s neighbouring countries and seven countries of the Indian Ocean region who will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Modi and his Council of Ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. “India and Maldives are maritime partners and close neighbours,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’. Bangladesh President Sheikh Hasina and Seychelles Vice President Ahmed Afeef have already reached Delhi. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, apart from Hasina and Afeef, other leaders who will attend the swearing-in ceremony include Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
Modi’s swearing in ceremony is today evening
Narendra Modi is going to take oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. All preparations have been made for this. After the year 1962, he will be the second Prime Minister after former PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who will take oath for the third consecutive term. To attend the swearing-in ceremony, all the leaders will also attend the banquet hosted by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Leaders of regional group SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries attended Modi’s first swearing-in ceremony, when he took charge as Prime Minister after BJP’s massive electoral victory. When Modi became Prime Minister for the second consecutive time in 2019, the leaders of BIMSTEC countries attended his swearing-in ceremony. (Language)
