Patna: On Sunday, January 28, Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the ninth time. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Sunday morning itself and took oath as CM in the evening itself. Along with Nitish Kumar, eight ministers also took oath. There are three ministers each from BJP and JDU. One minister is from Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) and one minister is independent.
3 ministers are made from BJP quota
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha and Dr. Prem Kumar have become ministers from Bharatiya Janata Party quota. Whereas Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Shravan Kumar have been made ministers from JDU quota. Along with this, Santosh Kumar Suman, son of Jitan Ram Manjhi, has been made minister from HAM quota. Along with this, Nitish Kumar has also included Bihar’s only independent MLA Santosh Kumar Singh in his cabinet.

Now if we talk about ministers from BJP quota, then Samrat Chaudhary has become a famous name in the politics of Bihar. He is also the President of BJP Bihar Pradesh. While in the opposition, he fiercely attacked the grand alliance government led by Nitish Kumar. Samrat Chaudhary comes from Kushwaha community. BJP wants to attract the voters of Kushwaha community in its favor with the help of Samrat Chaudhary. Chaudhary’s political journey started in 1999.

Father was a founding member of Samata Party
Samrat Chaudhary’s father late Shakuni Chaudhary has been among the people close to Lalu Prasad Yadav. His father has been a several-time MLA from Khagaria and once a Lok Sabha MP. Along with this, he has also been a member of Samata Party. Samrat Chaudhary has worked as Panchayati Raj Minister in the previous NDA government of Nitish Kumar. Along with this, Vijay Sinha has also been made the Deputy Chief Minister in Nitish government. Vijay Sinha is also considered one of the flamboyant leaders of Bihar BJP. 55-year-old Vijay Sinha has been associated with RSS and became active in student politics since 1983. Sinha’s entry into mainstream politics took place in 1990, when BJP made him the vice president of Rajendra Najag Mandal District Patna. After this he was made the state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Bihar.

Vijay Sinha is MLA from Lakhisarai
Vijay Sinha reached the Assembly by being elected MLA from Lakhisarai in the year 2005 but the President remained in the state for 6 months. Re-elections were held in November and he lost. After this, assembly elections were held in the year 2010 and he won it. After this victory, Vijay Sinha did not look back. He has been elected MLA from Lakhisarai assembly seat for three consecutive times. Before becoming the Deputy Chief Minister, he was cornering Nitish and Tejashwi government in the role of Leader of Opposition in the House. Vijay Sinha was one of those BJP leaders who were strongly cornering the government inside and outside the House.

Another minister from BJP quota is Prem Kumar. 68-year-old Prem Kumar is the MLA from Gaya Town assembly constituency. Dr. Prem Kumar has been MLA from this assembly constituency for eight consecutive terms since 1990. Earlier, he had been the Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Public Health, Engineering Department, Road Construction Department and Urban Development Department in the Government of Bihar. Apart from this, after the assembly elections in October 2015, he was also elected Leader of Opposition. He stayed here till July 2017.

Three ministers have also been made from JDU quota
Apart from BJP, three MLAs from JDU have also been made ministers in the Nitish government. Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Shravan Kumar have been made ministers from JDU quota. Bijendra Prasad Yadav has taken oath as minister at the age of 77. He is an MLA from Supaul and has reached the assembly for the eighth time. He is considered one of the party elders and close to Nitish Kumar. Bijendra joined active politics in 1967 and became MLA for the first time in 1990. Bijendra’s coin prevails in Supaul assembly constituency. As soon as he reached the Assembly for the first time in 1990, he was given the post of minister and till now he has looked after the work of more than a dozen departments.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has also been made minister
Another MLA who became a minister from JDU quota is Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. Vijay is the MLA from Saryaganj assembly seat of Samastipur district. Vijay has been a member of Bihar Assembly since 1982 and is also considered very close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He has also been the Minister of Finance, Commercial Taxes and Legislative Affairs. Apart from this, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has also served the responsibility of Assembly Speaker. Nitish Kumar trusts him blindly and he has also been the head of Janata Dal United.

Let us tell you that he used to work in a bank, but after the death of his father in 1982, he resigned from his job and joined active politics and became MLA for the first time by winning the by-election from Dalsinghsarai on Congress ticket. After this, in 1985 and 1990, he became MLA three times in a row on the resignation of Congress. He was also the General Secretary of Bihar Congress from 2000 to 2005. However, in 2005, he left Congress and joined Nitish Kumar’s JDU. In the 2005 assembly elections, he got ticket from JDU from Saryaganj assembly seat and since then till now he has been reaching the assembly by winning from here.

The third minister from JDU quota is Shravan Kumar. Shravan Kumar is MLA from Nalanda and has been MLA seven times. Has been Rural Development Minister in Bihar Government. He previously served as the Chief Whip of JD(U). He has also been in-charge of Jharkhand state unit of JDU. Last year he had said that people of states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh want Nitish Kumar to become the prime ministerial candidate of INDIA block. Shravan Kumar, considered a trusted commander of CM Nitish Kumar, has been active in politics since the JP movement.

Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son Santosh Kumar Suman becomes minister
Santosh Kumar Suman has also taken oath as minister along with CM Nitish Kumar. Santosh Suman, son of former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, had left the state cabinet in June 2023 amid the proposal to merge his party HAM-S with JDU. After this he joined the BJP led NDA alliance. Amidst political speculations in the state, Lalu Yadav had also contacted Jitan Ram Manjhi. However, after this he had made it clear that he would remain in NDA only. Let us tell you that Santosh Kumar Suman is a member of Bihar Legislative Council. He has been the former Minister of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, Government of Bihar.

The only independent MLA of the state also joins Nitish cabinet.
Among these eight ministers, the state’s only independent MLA Sumit Kumar Singh has also been included by the Nitish government in its cabinet. However, Sumit was also included in the cabinet of the Grand Alliance government. Sumit is 39 years old and is an independent MLA from Chakai in Jamui. Sumit Kumar Singh is the son of powerful leader of Bihar and former Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh. Sumit Singh was also a minister in the NDA government.
