Bird Flu in Humans: The WHO i.e. World Health Organization has confirmed that a person in India has got bird flu. This is a unique case of bird flu in humans. Recently, a person also died due to bird flu in Mexico. However, only two cases of bird flu have been reported in humans in India so far. The WHO said that a four-year-old child in West Bengal had bird flu in February due to the H9N2 virus. This has been confirmed by the WHO. The child was admitted to the ICU after suffering from severe difficulty in breathing, abdominal pain and high fever. After this, the child was treated in the hospital for three months. Now the child has been discharged from the hospital. The WHO says that this is the second case of bird flu in humans in India. Earlier in 2019, the first person in India had bird flu.
Why did humans get bird flu?
The bird flu virus usually attacks birds of the poultry species. It is very rare for this virus to reach humans. But if a person comes in contact with infected birds, then it can also affect humans. The child also used to visit poultry farms often. That is why he got this disease. However, this disease was not found in other members of the child’s family.

According to Mayo Clinic, if humans get bird flu, its symptoms start appearing within seven days. However, symptoms can appear even after two weeks of the virus attack. Its symptoms are more or less like flu. It can also cause fever, difficulty in breathing, eye problems, stomach cramps, vomiting, loose motion and diarrhea.

If someone gets bird flu, it is detected through a test. However, this test is not done everywhere. Therefore, it takes time to detect it. But it is treatable. Usually, this disease is treated with antiviral medicines.
How to avoid this disease
The best way to avoid this is to not go to any poultry farm. If it is necessary to go there, then go with your eyes, nose, ears etc. completely covered. For this, wear protective gear. Whenever you go outside, wash your hands and feet thoroughly with soap. If there is an outbreak of bird flu nearby, keep the kitchen clean and cook the chicken thoroughly. Cook it at least on 75 degrees flame. Boil the eggs well too. It would be better to stay away from raw dairy products as well.
