Prayagraj. Samajwadi Party MP from Ghazipur Afzal Ansari’s membership of parliament is in danger. Afzal Ansari was sentenced by the lower court for being involved in a high profile murder case. Allahabad High Court will now decide his political future by giving its verdict. Afzal Ansari was sentenced to 4 years in April 2023 by the lower court. Afzal Ansari is from Mau. His younger brother’s name was Mukhtar Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari was known as a dangerous mafia don of UP. Afzal Ansari also has another brother Sibghatullah Ansari. Sibghatullah Ansari has been an MLA in UP. Afzal Ansari was sentenced by the MP-MLA court under the Gangster Act for plotting the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. Afzal Ansari became an MP on a Samajwadi Party ticket in the recent Lok Sabha elections. He has also been in the BSP. Apart from being a 3-time MP, Afzal Ansari has also been an MLA in UP 5 times.
Afzal Ansari contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ghazipur on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 2004 and became an MP. After this, Krishnanand Rai was murdered in 2005 and Afzal Ansari had to go to jail on charges of conspiracy. Then in 2009, Afzal Ansari again contested the Lok Sabha elections on a BSP ticket, but lost. In 2014, the Ansari brothers formed the Qaumi Ekta Dal and Afzal contested from the Ballia Lok Sabha seat on its ticket, but lost again. In 2019, Afzal Ansari was given a ticket by the BSP and was elected MP from Ghazipur. Even before the completion of the term, the MP-MLA court sentenced him to 4 years and Afzal had to go to jail. Now everyone’s eyes are on the decision of the Allahabad High Court. However, if Afzal’s sentence remains intact, then he has the option of going to the Supreme Court to challenge it.
