New Delhi: There is a ruckus across the country regarding the medical entrance exam NEET conducted by NTA. It is being alleged that the dignity of the entrance exam has been tampered with. Recently NTA had cancelled the UGC-NET exam. In view of the alleged rigging and paper leak in the examinations, the central government has constituted a high level committee. The government has entrusted the committee with the important responsibility of submitting the report in the next 2 months. This committee will make recommendations on improving the mechanism of the examination process, improving data security protocols and the structure and functioning of NTA. Dr. Radhakrishnan, who has taken charge of ISRO, has been made the chairman of this committee. Let us know who is Radhakrishnan?
Doctorate from Kharagpur
Almost two years after the country’s independence, on 29 August 1949, a child was born in Irinjalakuda, Kerala, who later rose to become the chairman of the country’s most prestigious institution. After completing his primary education in Irinjalakuda, Radhakrishnan did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Kerala University in 1970. After this, he did a post-graduation diploma in management from IIM Bangalore in 1976. He received a doctorate from IIT Kharagpur for his thesis ‘Some Strategies for Indian Earth Observation System’.
He has also taken charge of remote sensing
Radhakrishnan started his career in May 1971 as an avionics engineer at ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram. After this, he held many important positions in ISRO. He was the project head for the establishment of regional remote sensing centers between 1987-89, from 1987 to 1997 he was the Director of Budget and Economic Analysis for ISRO, while from 1997 to 2000 he was the Director of Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development and Vice Chairman of the National Remote Sensing Agency, in the year 2005 he was made the Chairman of Remote Sensing.
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities
Apart from serving as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center from 2007 to 2009, Radhakrishnan also held important responsibilities as a member of the Space Commission from 2008 to 2009. On November 1, 2009, Radhakrishnan assumed the multiple responsibilities of Chairman of the Space Commission and Secretary of the Department of Space, Government of India, as well as Chairman of the ISRO Council.
