58-year-old Waqar-uz-Zaman took over as the Army Chief of Bangladesh on 23 June this year. His term is for the next three years, which is the normal tenure for this post. Waqar-uz-Zaman was born in Dhaka in 1966. He is married to Sarhanaz Kamalika Zaman, daughter of General Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman. In a career spanning three and a half decades, he worked closely with Sheikh Hasina and also served as the principal staff officer in the Armed Forces Division under the Prime Minister’s Office.
