New Delhi. Senior IAS officer T V Somanathan was appointed Cabinet Secretary on Saturday. He will replace Rajiv Gauba. Somanathan, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, is currently serving as Union Finance Secretary and Expenditure Secretary.
An official order said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of T V Somanathan, IAS as Cabinet Secretary for a tenure of two years from 30.08.2024.”
The order said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of TV Somanathan, IAS as Special Officer in the Cabinet Secretariat. He will hold this post from the date of assuming charge till he assumes charge as Cabinet Secretary.” Gauba took over as Cabinet Secretary five years ago on 30 August 2019.
T.V. Somanathan is known for his administrative ability and experience. He has served on many important posts. His appointment is expected to strengthen the government. The post of Cabinet Secretary is very important in the government. It plays an important role in implementing the policies and programs of the government. The appointment of T.V. Somanathan will help the government achieve its goals.
