New Delhi. Before the Republic Day, the Modi government at the Center has announced to give Bharat Ratna to former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur. Usually, a few days before the Republic Day, the names of the dignitaries to be honored with Bharat Ratna are revealed by the Central Government. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted in this context, in which he said, ‘I am happy that the Government of India has decided to honor the great social justice icon Karpuri Thakur ji with Bharat Ratna and that too at a time when we are celebrating his birth centenary.
‘This prestigious honor is a testament to her enduring efforts as a champion for the marginalized and an advocate for equality and empowerment. Let us tell you that Karpoori Thakur was born in 1924 in one of the most backward sections of the society – the Barber community. He was a remarkable leader whose political journey was marked by his unwavering commitment towards the marginalized sections of the society. He served as the Chief Minister of Bihar and was a leading figure in the struggle against social discrimination and inequality. His commitment to affirmative action gave representation and opportunities to the poor, the oppressed, the exploited.
