New Delhi. The name of the new chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has been announced. Preeti Sudan has been appointed as the next chairperson of UPSC, she will take charge from tomorrow i.e. August 1. UPSC Chairman Mahesh Soni had recently suddenly resigned from his post a few days ago. He cited personal reasons without giving any specific reason behind his resignation. Since Soni’s resignation, speculations were being made as to who will now be handed over the command of UPSC.

Preeti Sudan is a retired IAS officer of the 1983 batch of Andhra Pradesh cadre. Preeti Sudan also has a lot of experience working in many central ministries. After working in many different departments during her 37 years of service, Preeti retired from the post of Union Health Secretary in the year 2020. After retirement, she became a member of UPSC in the year 2022. Preeti Sudan, originally from Haryana, has also done M.Phil from the London School of Economics.

During her service in Andhra Pradesh, Preeti has been in charge of finance, planning, disaster management, tourism and agriculture. Preeti has also been a member of the Independent Panel of the World Health Organization (WHO). During the Covid pandemic, Preeti was posted as the Union Secretary in the Ministry of Health. Then, in view of the problems of migrant laborers, she wrote a letter to all the states and union territories and recommended taking as much care of those laborers as possible. Preeti Sudan had made an important contribution in implementing the country’s major schemes ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ and ‘Ayushman Bharat’. Apart from this, Preeti also played an important role in making a law to ban e-cigarettes.
