New Delhi. Senior IAS officer Govind Mohan has been appointed as the new Home Secretary. This appointment has been made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Govind Mohan will replace the current Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, who is retiring on 22 August. Govind Mohan will take charge as the new Union Home Secretary from 22 August.
In a notification issued by the Government of India in this regard, it was written, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Govind Mohan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Culture as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs with immediate effect.”
The notification further states that after completing his tenure on August 22, he will take over as Home Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs in place of Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Govind Mohan is a 1989 Sikkim cadre IAS officer. He hails from UP and has been on central deputation since 2017.
It is noteworthy that Ajay Kumar Bhalla was appointed to the post of Union Home Secretary in August 2019. He was to retire in November 2020, but the central government extended his tenure by one year in October 2020 till August 22, 2021. After that he was given a second and third extension of service which is till August 22, 2024.
