New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its second list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which also includes Yaduveer Krishnadutt Chamaraja Wadiyar from Mysuru parliamentary constituency. Wadiyar, a scion of the Mysuru royal family, has been nominated to contest the elections from Mysuru. He replaces sitting MP Pratap Simha and is a descendant of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. Her late husband, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, represented the Mysuru Lok Sabha seat four times in the 1980s and 1990s.
BJP today released its second list of 72 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Notable names in the list include Anurag Thakur, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Basavaraj Bommai, Piyush Goyal and Anil Baluni.
Who is Yaduveer Krishnadutt?
Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar is the 27th head of the Wadiyar dynasty. Yaduveer was born as Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs on 24 March 1992 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. His great-grandfather was Sardar Gopalraj Urs, who was adopted into the royal family by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III. Sardar Gopalraj Urs later ascended the throne in 1868.
Yaduveer’s great grandfather was none other than Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, making the Maharaja his great grandfather.
His adoptive father was Maharaja Srikantadatta Wadiyar, who died in 2013. Yaduveer received his education in Bangalore, attending Vidya Niketan School and later the Canadian International School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst1.
Following the demise of his great-grandfather, Prince Srikantadatta Wadiyar in 2013, the position of head of the family had fallen vacant. It was up to Queen Mother Pramoda Devi Wadiyar to adopt an heir, following Hindu customs. In a private ceremony in 2015, Yaduveer Wadiyar was installed as the “Maharaja of Mysore”.
