New Delhi. Every year on March 23, people gather in Hussainiwala, a village on the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, to honor the legacy of three heroes of India’s freedom struggle – Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. This small village has a special connection with the three revolutionaries who were symbols of the fight against British rule. This was the reason that at the time of independence, India had given up 12 villages in exchange for this village in Firozpur district. In this village, in 1931, on the banks of river Sutlej, the British secretly performed the last rites of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
According to a report in ‘Times Now’, however, after partition, Hussainwala went to Pakistan. To get it back, India gave 12 villages to Pakistan. To honor the legacy of the heroes, a Martyr Fair is organized here every year on 23 March. Hussainiwala is a village near Firozpur city in Firozpur district of Punjab. The village is situated near the banks of river Sutlej and shares border with village Ganda Singh Wala of Pakistan. This village was named after a Muslim Pir Hussaini Baba.
What did Gandhiji say after the hanging of Bhagat Singh? Youth shouted slogans in anger.
Hussainiwala village came into prominence on the evening of 23 March 1931 when British soldiers tried to cremate the bodies of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Raj Guru. Who were hanged a day earlier in Lahore Central Jail. Because the British were afraid of rebellion. Then the bodies of the freedom fighters were secretly taken to Hussainiwala for cremation. The local people got wind of this and gathered at the cremation site on the banks of Sutlej and forced the British soldiers to flee from there. Later the villagers cremated the bodies of these martyrs. This site is today a memorial – called the ‘Inspiration Site’.
