Srinagar: Flood control preparations were reviewed in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday. Top officials of all the departments gathered together and took stock of the preparations to deal with the flood situation. This was done because due to continuous rains in the Himalayas, the water level of the rivers is continuously increasing. It has been raining continuously in Kashmir region for the last three days. In such a situation, the possibility of a flood-like situation cannot be ruled out in the coming days.
During a meeting, Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat stressed on close coordination between the concerned departments and preparing a plan to ensure quick response to any flood-like situation in the district, the official said. District Disaster Management Authority Chairman Bhatt stressed on 24-hour monitoring of flood-prone areas and ensuring timely dissemination of information among the people about flood alerts, evacuation points and centers and transportation plans.

Special attention on sensitive places
Officials have been instructed to focus their attention on the identified sensitive places so that prompt action can be ensured in case of spillage of river water. The Deputy Commissioner also directed to strengthen communication with ground level workers and people to provide information about prevention measures and avoid panic.
Increased facilities in hospitals
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Srinagar was directed to ensure that critical machinery and medicines in health institutions are kept at safe places, the official said. The CMO was also asked to develop standard operating procedures and ensure that employees are fully aware of their responsibilities.
