New Delhi/Patna. Four phases of voting for Lok Sabha elections-2024 have ended. Voting for the fifth phase will be held on May 20. Voting is also to be held on five Lok Sabha seats of Bihar in the fifth phase. These five seats include Saran (Chhapra before 2009), Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani and Seemamarhi. Many of these seats are being considered hot this time. However, all eyes are on Saran Lok Sabha seat, which was once the stronghold of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. This time Lalu Yadav has made his daughter Rohini Acharya, who lives in Singapore, a candidate from here. Meanwhile, Rajiv Pratap Rudy is in the fray from BJP’s side. Rudy has been winning the Saran Lok Sabha seat for the last two times. But, with the entry of Rohini Acharya in the field, the competition has become interesting.
After delimitation, Chhapra Lok Sabha seat became Saran in 2009. Lalu Prasad Yadav has won elections from this area thrice. He last contested elections from this seat in the year 2009 and won, after that Saran seat went out of the hands of RJD. BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy has been winning elections from here in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This time Lalu Yadav has given Lok Sabha ticket to his daughter Rohini Acharya. Rohini Acharya has donated her kidney to Lalu Prasad Yadav. With Rohini entering the election fray, the contest in Saran has become interesting.
Lok Sabha Election 2024: Fight between Bhumihar and Brahmin on this seat, but Dalit-Tribal and OBC are ahead in population.
Lalu’s wife and sister-in-law have lost the elections
Lalu Prasad Yadav last contested parliamentary elections from Saran in 2009. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, RJD had fielded Rabri Devi as its candidate, but she lost the election to Rajiv Pratap Rudy. After this, in the 2019 elections, Lalu Yadav had fielded his sister-in-law Chandrika Rai from here. Chandrika Rai also could not save the seat. Let us tell you that Chandrika Rai is the father-in-law of Lalu Yadav’s son Tej Pratap Yadav. At present, the relationship between both the families has become sour due to mutual disputes. Chandrika Rai is the son of former Chief Minister of Bihar Daroga Rai. Now this time Lalu Yadav has surprised the opposition parties by fielding his daughter Rohini.
Dominance of Rajput-Yadav voters
The caste equation in Saran Lok Sabha seat is also interesting and clear. Here the number of Rajput and Yadav voters is almost equal. Rajput voters are generally in favor of BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy, while Yadav voters are considered supporters of Lalu Yadav. Let us tell you that Lalu Yadav had contested parliamentary elections from Chapra (now Saran) on Janata Party ticket in 1977-79. He reached the Lok Sabha after being elected at the age of just 29. He once again won the Lok Sabha elections from here in 1989, but resigned from here in 1990 to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. After this, Lalu Yadav contested elections from here in the year 2009 and won.
