Voting is to be held in Delhi on 25 May in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. This time the political equations have changed here. While the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are fighting the elections together, the BSP is contesting on its own. Not only this, many leaders with brooms are in the fray this time riding on the elephant. In such a situation, the question arises whether the elephant can spoil the move of the Indy alliance this time. Also, by fielding new faces on most of the seats, BJP is again trying to score a hat-trick.
Voting will be held on Saturday for 7 seats in Delhi. This time Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have formed an alliance to fight against BJP. Aam Aadmi Party is contesting on 4 seats in Delhi and Congress on 3 seats. BJP is contesting on all 7 seats on its own. To achieve a hat-trick of clean sweep, BJP has bet on new faces on 6 seats, while it has expressed confidence in outgoing MP Manoj Tiwari on one seat.
On the other hand, Bahujan Samaj Party-BSP is also contesting on all seven seats on its own. It has bet on rebels of Aam Aadmi Party on two seats. This is being considered a big blow to the Indy alliance. BSP Delhi State President Laxman Singh claims that the party is fighting the elections with full strength. There is no harm to BSP from the alliance of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, rather it will prove to be beneficial.
Former Delhi government minister Rajkumar Anand has left the Aam Aadmi Party and is contesting from New Delhi seat on a BSP ticket. Mohammad Waqar Chaudhary, who rebelled against AAP, is contesting from East Delhi. BSP is claiming better performance with these candidates contesting the elections.
There are more than 1.52 crore voters in Delhi. About 15 percent of them are Scheduled Caste voters. In such a situation, the Bahujan Samaj Party is eyeing these votes as well as Muslim voters.
BSP’s political track
In Delhi, Bahujan Samaj Party has been fielding its candidates in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and Municipal Corporation elections since 1989. BSP has not been successful in Lok Sabha elections so far, but it has been successful in winning some seats in Vidhan Sabha and Municipal Corporation elections. BSP contests every election on 250 seats of Delhi Municipal Corporation and 70 seats of Delhi Assembly. When BSP contested Delhi Assembly in 2008, 2 MLAs of BSP won. 1 councilor won in 2002 Delhi Municipal Corporation, 17 councilors won in 2007 Delhi Municipal Corporation, 15 councilors were victorious in 2012 MCD and 3 councilors won in 2017 Delhi Municipal Corporation.
