Hyderabad. The state cabinet led by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took an important decision in a meeting held on Thursday. The Telangana government has decided to merge some villages of Medchal-Malkajgiri districts into Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). This seems to indicate that the government is trying to divide GHMC into two corporations. Most parts of Medchal-Malkajgiri district currently fall under the jurisdiction of GHMC.
The Telangana government has decided to merge 23 villages of Medchal-Malkajgiri district with nearby municipalities and corporations and then merge them with GHMC. It seems that the Congress government is going to decide to merge the municipalities, corporations and some villages up to Tor Ring Road (ORR) into one municipal corporation at Baldia. It is reported that CM Revanth Reddy has also given the green signal to this.
It seems that the government is going to negotiate to divide 2,100 sq km of land within the outer ring road limits of the capital into Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Greater Secunderabad Municipal Corporation. The development of Mumbai city has been possible due to its division into two corporations and the government believes that if Hyderabad is also divided into two corporations, only then will it develop as a metropolitan city. It seems that in view of this, a decision has been taken to divide the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into two parts.
There are 7 corporations, 20 municipalities and 33 gram panchayats along with GHMC within ORR. Apart from these, there are also cantonment boards and other bodies. The municipal department has prepared a proposal to merge 10 other panchayats outside ORR and GHMC. If Baldia is extended to the outer, the scope of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will increase further. Some areas of ORR are already under HMDA. Later, HMDA will be expanded to other areas. This will double the number of HMDA zones.
