New Delhi. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is currently touring the country. They are opposing the ordinance regarding transfer-posting rights given to the lieutenant governor of Delhi by the central government. The Modi government is going to bring a bill to replace this ordinance in the monsoon session of Parliament. In such a situation, Kejriwal is engaged in the exercise of uniting all the opposition parties. So that the Center’s bill can be thrown out in the Rajya Sabha. Kejriwal says that if the Modi government fails to pass the bill in the Rajya Sabha, it will be like a semi-final before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the opposition will look united. Arvind Kejriwal has so far got the support of 10 parties. In these, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction, Hemant Soren’s JMM, Stalin’s DMK, Akhilesh Yadav’s SP, K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s BRS, Lalu Yadav’s RJD, Nitish Kumar’s JDU, Sharad Pawar’s NCP.
Will Kejriwal unite the opposition in the Rajya Sabha against the Modi government’s bill? The answer to this question depends on the number of members of the parties in the Rajya Sabha. Currently in Rajya Sabha BJP 93, Congress 31, Mamta’s TMC 12, Aam Aadmi Party 10, DMK 10, BJD 9, YSRCP 9, BRS 7, RJD 6, CPM 5, JDU 5 , AIADMK 4, NCP 4, SP 3, Others & Independent 3, Shiv Sena 3, CPI 2, JMM 2, AGP 1, BSP 1, Muslim League 1, JDS 1, Kerala Congress Mani KA has 1 MP, MDMK 1, MNF 1, NPP 1, PMK 1, Rashtriya Lok Dal 1, Republican Party 1, SDF 1, Tamil Maanila Congress Moopanar 1, TDP 1 and UPP 1. Apart from this, there are also 5 nominated members.
Kejriwal is yet to get the support of the Congress, the largest opposition party in the Rajya Sabha. If we talk about the numerical strength, then the ruling BJP at the center along with some other parties other than BJD and YSRCP have passed the bills related to triple talaq and cancellation of Article 370 in the Rajya Sabha. If these parties support BJP once again, then Kejriwal’s dream may be shattered. Also, if the opposition alliance is defeated in the Rajya Sabha, it will be a big blow for it before the Lok Sabha elections.
