New Delhi. Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, who is facing sexual harassment allegations, will probably return to India from Germany this week. According to Karnataka officials, Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, may come to India on the night of 3-4 May. The development comes a day after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case issued summons to Prajwal Revanna to appear for questioning. The investigating agency also summoned Revanna’s father and MLA from Holenarasipur seat HD Revanna. According to a report in ‘Hindustan Times’, earlier the SIT had said that Revanna would be declared a ‘fugitive’ if he did not appear before the investigating agency after the summons.
The controversy over Prajwal Revanna started when a series of obscene videos related to him started circulating in Hassan district of Karnataka last week. The video reportedly showed the 33-year-old leader performing sexual acts with multiple women, leading to allegations of abuse and assault. During the initial investigation, officials found a pen drive containing 2,976 pornographic videos. Which were recorded from a mobile phone at Revanna’s residences in Bengaluru and Hassan. After this, based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Revanna and her father under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. done.
Revanna Lok Sabha Candidate
The case was filed by a woman who worked at Revanna’s residence between 2019 and 2022. The woman alleged that she was sexually exploited while she was working at his house. Meanwhile, Revanna left the country for Germany on April 27, a day after the Lok Sabha elections in the state. His father HD Revanna told the media that his son would return if he was called for investigation.
JD(S) suspends Prajwal Revanna
Despite the allegations, the Bharatiya Janata Party-JD(S) alliance had fielded Revanna as its Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan. However, as the controversy escalated, JD(S) on Tuesday suspended Revanna and issued a show cause notice to him on allegations of sexual harassment. JD(S) core committee president GT Deve Gowda said in a media briefing that we have decided to recommend to our party’s national president to suspend him from the party till the completion of the SIT investigation.
