Lawyer and social activist Vineet Jindal, in his letter to the President, has demanded the reopening of the cases of genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in 1989-1990 and the formation of a SIT to probe them.
Jindal urged the President that the SIT should thoroughly investigate the cases registered so far and provide a platform to the victims who were unable to report their cases due to the then adverse circumstances with the aim of ensuring justice.
The counsel argued that if the cases relating to the anti-Sikh riots that happened 33 years ago can be reopened and re-examined, then the cases of Kashmiri Pandits that happened 27 years ago can also be reopened and can be re-examined.
Jindal said in the letter that the victims of the incidents were in a state of physical, emotional and mental trauma and were struggling for their livelihood for the past several years and were not in a position to register their complaints, record statements and Therefore, they are deprived of the opportunity of justice.
Seeking justice for the victims, Jindal argued that as already stated, the responsibility of justice lies largely with the police officers and administrative officers, who are completely ignorant of the massacre and harm. Such Kashmiri Pandits should be given another chance by the government and the concerned authorities.
