Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Lok Sabha elections have started. The eyes of the entire country are on Uttar Pradesh. Out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, maximum 80 are in UP. In such a situation, if we talk about Gautam Buddha Nagar, the richest district of Uttar Pradesh and adjacent to Delhi, it is considered very special politically. Gautam Buddha Nagar is a high profile seat. It was earlier called Noida and this name is still in use today. The Gautam Buddha Nagar parliamentary seat is currently held by the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP has once again expressed confidence in sitting MP Mahesh Sharma on this seat. At the same time, Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded its candidates from the opposition alliance INDIA. SP has fielded Dr. Mahendra Singh Nagar as its candidate, while Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has given ticket to Rajendra Singh Solanki.
First Lok Sabha elections in 2009
Initially, Gautam Buddha Nagar was a part of Bulandshahr Lok Sabha seat, but in the 1962 elections, it was included in the newly created Khurja Lok Sabha seat. Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha seat came into existence after delimitation in 2008. Lok Sabha elections were held here for the first time in 2009, in which Bahujan Samaj Party won by a large margin. During that time, Surendra Singh of BSP had defeated Mahesh Sharma of BJP by a margin of 15,904 votes. Samajwadi Party was then in third place.
In the 2014 elections, the effect of Modi wave was visible in the entire country including North India and Gautam Buddha Nagar seat also went to BJP. BJP again fielded Dr Mahesh Sharma and he defeated SP’s Narendra Bhati by a margin of 2,80,212 votes. Mahesh Sharma also got the reward for this spectacular victory and he was made a minister in the Modi government at the Centre. Mahesh Sharma’s victory tally increased in the 2019 elections and won the election by a margin of more than 3 lakh votes. Now once again Mahesh Sharma has been made the candidate from here. In such a situation, along with Mahesh Sharma, BJP is also eyeing a hat-trick of victory on this seat.
Importance of Gautam Buddha Nagar district
Gautam Buddha Nagar district, adjacent to the national capital New Delhi (NCR), was established on 9 June 1997. This district was created by carving out parts of Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad districts. As soon as there was change of power in UP, the Samajwadi Party government led by former Chief Minister Late Mulayam Singh Yadav had dissolved this district. The people here had protested strongly against this government order. Later, due to public pressure, the then government of Uttar Pradesh had to withdraw its decision and this district was restored. The headquarters of this district, adjacent to Delhi, is located in Greater Noida. The importance of this district has further increased due to the inclusion of major industrial units within its limits and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and developing industrial authorities like Noida, Greater Noida in the National Capital Region.

This region includes a total of 5 assembly seats – Noida, Jewar, Secunderabad, Dadri and Khurja. In the assembly elections held in Uttar Pradesh during 2017, all these five seats went to BJP’s account. Caste equation is considered very important in this parliamentary seat. There is a significant number of Gurjar, Thakur and Dalit as well as Muslim and Brahmin voters under this parliamentary constituency. At the time of 2019 elections, the number of Thakur voters here was more than 4 lakh, while the number of Brahmin voters was also around 4 lakh. After this, the number of Muslim voters was around 3.5 lakh, Gurjar voters were around 4 lakh and the number of Dalit voters was also around 4 lakh.
