Stock Market Holiday : The Indian stock market will remain closed on Thursday, August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed. All market segments including equity, derivatives and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) will remain closed on this day. Apart from this, the commodity market will also remain closed for the whole day on August 15. The commodity derivatives segment and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segment will remain closed on BSE.
Trading will remain closed on MCX
Along with this, all bullion, metal and energy derivatives trading on Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) will remain closed for both morning and evening sessions. At the same time, trading of agricultural commodities on National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also remain closed on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.
15 holidays this year
Normal trading in the Indian stock market will resume from Friday, August 16. There are no other stock market holidays in the month of August. The next trading holiday is on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday, October 2. There are a total of 15 stock market holidays in the calendar year 2024. The remaining trading holidays this year are for Independence Day on August 15, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Diwali on November 1, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15 and Christmas on December 25.
Banks will also remain closed
Independence Day is recognised as a national holiday in India and hence all banks will remain closed tomorrow. All public sector and private sector banks across the country will remain closed on August 15. However, all online banking services will remain available.
