Will those who do 'love jihad' in Assam spend their entire life in jail? Will CM Sarma bring a law

Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said his government will soon bring a new law to provide for life imprisonment in cases of ‘love jihad’. “We talked about ‘love jihad’ during the elections. We will soon bring a law that will provide for life imprisonment in such cases,” he said at the state BJP executive meeting here.

Sharma also said that a new domicile policy will soon be introduced under which only people born in Assam will be eligible for state government jobs. He said that indigenous people have got priority in the ‘one lakh government jobs’ provided as per the pre-poll promise, which will be clear when the full list is published.

The Chief Minister said that the Assam government has also taken a decision regarding the sale of land between Hindus and Muslims. Sharma said that the state government cannot stop such transactions, but it has been made mandatory to take the consent of the Chief Minister before going ahead.

The CM said that the Assam government has taken a decision regarding land deals between Hindus and Muslims. He said that the government cannot stop such transactions, but the consent of the Chief Minister will be mandatory for such deals. Himanta Biswa Sarma had promised that his government will implement Uniform Civil Code in Assam. On demographic ‘invasion’, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that last month, he went to Jharkhand and claimed that ‘Bangladeshi infiltrators’ were grabbing the land of tribals.

He said, “Today I visited Gaibthan village in Pakur. There is SPT law there, so the land of the tribals cannot be transferred. Two Bangladeshi intruders have grabbed their land, the court ordered that both of them be removed and the tribal family be given back their land, but the administration did nothing.”

He said, “When the tribal family tried to build a house on their land, they were attacked by Bangladeshi intruders. Even today they have not got their land back. The tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand should help them. Infiltration is the reality of places like Pakur, Sahibganj.”
