Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha seat is among the hot seats of Maharashtra. This Lok Sabha seat has been created by combining three assemblies each of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat came into existence in 2008. The first parliamentary elections were held here in 2009. In the first election, Congress party had won and Nilesh Rane was elected MP. Since then Shiv Sena-UBT is winning this seat. This year there is a contest on this seat between Shiv Sena-UBT and BJP. From here, Shiv Sena-UBT has once again expressed confidence in Vinayak Raut, while BJP has fielded Narayan Rane.
Results of three elections held so far
In the 2009 elections, Nilesh Rane of Congress Party got 3,53,915 votes. He defeated Shiv Sena’s Suresh Prabhu by 46,750 votes. He got 3,07,165 votes. This seat was captured by Shiv Sena-UBT in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. From here the party had fielded Vinayak Raut. Vinayak Raut defeated Nilesh Rane of Congress by 1,50,051 votes. After this, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections also, Shiv Sena-UBT’s Vinayak Raut managed to win the seat by maintaining his charisma. He won this seat by 1,78,322 votes. Vinayak Raut was successful in getting 458,022 votes. Whereas, MSHP’s Nilesh Narayan Rane got 2,79,700 votes at second place.

BJP has made Narayan Rane its candidate from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg. Before this, BJP has never fielded any representative from here. Shiv Sena, which was earlier part of the NDA alliance, has been contesting elections from here. At the same time, Shiv Sena-UBT, now part of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), has expressed confidence in its old candidate from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat. Vinayak Raut from Shiv Sena-UBT will contest elections from here for the third time.
About Lok Sabha seat-
Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency is situated on the coast of Arabian Sea. The great freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born in Ratnagiri. This city is close to Kajali River. In 1731, Ratnagiri came under the control of Satara kings. It was captured by the British in 1818. At the same time, the district Sindhudurg falling in this seat is famous for the world famous Alphonso fruits like mango, cashew, jamun. This area is surrounded by long and beautiful beaches, lush green forests and mountains. Here in 1664, Shivaji Maharaj built a grand fort on the Konkan coast. It is known as Sindhudurg Fort. Apart from this, Sindhudurg is known as the city with the most forts in Maharashtra. There are 37 forts here, which are built on sea, land and hill tops.
