Summary
Skeeter Valieva was found guilty of consuming a banned drug on December 25, but the results of the Swedish lab’s test came only a week earlier. Earlier she had won gold for the Russian Olympic Committee.
Russian teen Kamila Valyeva will be able to compete in the women’s figure skating event at the Games after failing a dope test ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics. On Monday, the Court of Sports Arbitration (CAS) said that 15-year-old Valieva does not need to be temporarily suspended without a thorough investigation. The tribunal ruled in favor of the player because he is still a minor and the rules for him will be different from adult players.
CAS Director-General Mathieu Reeb said that the panel considered after consideration that it would be at a loss if the player was stopped from participating in the Olympics. Following the decision, Valieva and other Russian skaters will aim for a clean sweep in the women’s figure skating event. The competition will run from Tuesday to Thursday. After the decision, Valieva attended a practice session at the appointed time.

Earlier she had won gold for the Russian Olympic Committee. The reason for the six-week delay in the report is unclear, but Russian officials say the lab was short of staff due to the spread of the Omicron variant in January.
no decision on gold medal
Skator Kamila was immediately banned by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, which was lifted a day later. The IOC and others appealed which led to an expeditious hearing of the matter. Valieva presented her side through video conference. After this decision, it was decided that she would be able to play further but the decision has not come on the gold medal she has won. The decision on that will come after a detailed investigation.
