Food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato have complained to the Delhi government over challans being issued to their two-wheelers. Arvind Kejriwal government has banned bike taxi service in Delhi. Amidst the ban on bike taxis, the issue of challaning of food delivery two-wheelers Swiggy and Zomato has come to the fore.
Explanation sought from Delhi government
Now the food delivery platforms have sought clarification from the Delhi government on this directive. Along with this, it has been claimed that the notice issued on the ban of bike taxi service has been misinterpreted. In a letter to the government, Swiggy has said that under the guise of a ban on bike taxi services, food delivery people are being fined up to Rs 15,000.
Disruption due to change in rules
A Swiggy spokesperson said, “The recent changes in the rules for bike taxi service in Delhi have caused disruption for food delivery aggregators. Our delivery boys are being wrongly invoiced despite being applicable only to bike taxi service providers. He said that some of the challans issued to the delivery boys are of more than Rs 15,000.

The spokesperson said, “We continue to work closely with the authorities to seek clarity on the government’s direction. Seeking clarification on the matter, Zomato has written to the Transport Department of the Delhi government, stating that the notification has been misinterpreted by the RTO officials.
Seeking immediate intervention in the matter, he said, “This has led to disruption of services and confusion among the delivery aggregators, who are now apprehensive of providing their service and facing penalties and duty There is a fear of being harassed during.”
