In fact, in the marginal Joshimath development block of Chamoli district, women are improving the economy of the household by cultivating roses at home. Here more than 50 women are associated with rose cultivation through self-help groups. In the last 10 years, more than 200 women of Joshimath region have become a part of this campaign. These women have improved their economic condition by adopting aromatic farming..and now they are earning 10 to 12 lakh rupees annually by cultivating roses. There is also a unique story of starting self-employment in this area through roses. In fact, the cultivation of roses started here only about 12 years ago. Farmers troubled by the terror of wild animals in Joshimath region started doing new experiments in agriculture about 12 years ago. In the year 2010, Belmati Devi of Ganeshpur village near Joshimath planted rose plants on the bunds of the fields. Due to this, the bunds of the fields were closed on the one hand, while the security cordon of the crops was also prepared.
When the roses started blooming, some villagers started selling them in the temples on the Yatra route. This inspired other villagers as well. Within a year, more than 50 women joined rose cultivation. And now she is doing business of rose water along with selling flowers in temples. This rose water is sold at a price of 200 per liter and it is in great demand in the market. This is because there is no chemical in it and this water is made from fresh flowers of rose which is completely natural. Belmati Devi of Ganeshpur says that for the first time this rose water was sold at a low price in the local market. But, then technical support was also given here by providing a machine to extract water from rose flowers. After this, for the first time, rural women extracted 60 liters of rose water from 50 kg of flowers and sold it in Dilli Haat. Told that rose water is sold at Rs 200 per liter. Today the situation is that the buyers of Delhi, Mumbai and other places sitting at home are reaching here and taking rose water. At present women are preparing more than four thousand liters of rose water.
