Tonk. The anger of villagers and especially women erupted during public hearing in Palai Gram Panchayat of Uniyara subdivision located in Tonk district of Rajasthan. Placed by water shortage, road plight, encroachment and dirt problems, the women gave direct ultimatum to the panchayat administration – solution in three days, otherwise the panchayat building will be locked.
Women became leaders
This public hearing was not just a process, but became a public performance of the anger of rural women. The women heard the panchayat administration and the officials present on the road leading to the Tejaji temple, the dirt and continuous deteriorating water supply system.
The women clearly said: “If the problem of water and road is not solved in three days, then we will lock the panchayat and sit down.”
The issues that warmed out the public hearing: According to Assistant Engineer Mevaraj Meena, the villagers raised the following major problems:
CC road construction by removing encroachment to NH 148D via Tejaji Temple from Palai bus stand

New land allocation for Chaturpura sub -health center
Transparency in water, road, electricity and lease distribution
Progress of prior sanctioned development works
Outrage of the absence of village development officer
The proceedings of public hearing were to start at 11:45 pm, but the Village Development Officer went before any information. This not only kept the problems of the villagers incomplete, but also gave more air to the anger of the people.
The women alleged that-
“We repeatedly plead with the officials, but there is no hearing. And when the opportunity came, the Village Development Officer was missing from the spot.”
What did the administration say? Administrator Gopilal Meena, who was presiding over Jansunwai, admitted that the absence of the Village Development Officer was unfortunate. Sarpanch Gopilal Meena assured that he would report this negligence to the high officials.
In -charge Mevraj Meena directed the concerned departments to take action to resolve the problems with priority.
