Kolkata. There is a cloud of doubt looming over the swearing-in ceremony of two newly elected Trinamool Congress MLAs in West Bengal. 18 days have passed since these MLAs won the election, but till now they have not been able to take the oath of membership of the Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Secretary has written a fresh letter to the Raj Bhavan requesting early approval for the ceremony. This is the second time the Assembly Secretary has sent such a letter to Governor C.V. Anand Bose’s office. The first letter was sent on June 15.
Let us tell you that Trinamool Congress’s Rayat Hussain Sarkar won the by-elections from Bhagwangola assembly seat and Sayantika Banerjee from Baranagar seat. Sources said that 18 days have passed since their election, but their swearing-in has been stuck due to ‘technical glitches’ between the state secretariat and Raj Bhavan located in Nabanna.
On the other hand, sources inside the Raj Bhavan say that there are procedural flaws in both the letters received by the Governor’s office. For the oath taking of the newly elected MLAs, the message has to be sent from the Parliamentary Affairs Department of the state to the Governor’s office in the Raj Bhavan, and not by the Assembly Secretary.
He said that after the first letter, the Governor’s office sent a letter to the Legislative Assembly seeking information about the number of senior-most members in the House, the number of MLAs from Scheduled Castes or Tribes, etc. But instead of answering these, the Assembly Secretary has sent a letter requesting to organize the swearing-in ceremony soon.
