The reign of Xiaomi and Samsung, which ruled the Indian smartphone market for the last three years, has ended. Users’ trust in both these brands is gradually ending. The market share of both these brands has also decreased in the second quarter of 2024. At the same time, Motorola has registered the highest growth during this period. According to the new report of IDC, the Indian smartphone market has registered a growth of 3.2 percent in the second quarter of the year. During this period, a total of 39 million units of smartphones have been shipped in India, which is more than the second quarter of last year.
Vivo ended the reign of Samsung and Xiaomi
Chinese smartphone brand Vivo has registered tremendous growth in the second quarter of the year. The company is currently number 1 in the Indian smartphone market with a 16.5 percent share. Vivo has registered an annual growth of 6.7 percent in smartphone sales. However, Apple is once again dominating the premium segment. Apple’s market share in the smartphone category above Rs 67,000 is 83 percent. At the same time, South Korean company Samsung has suffered a setback here too. Samsung’s market share in the premium segment is just 16 percent.
Xiaomi is at number two with a market share of 13.5 percent in this quarter. At the same time, Samsung has slipped to third place with a share of 12.9 percent. Samsung was at number two in the last quarter. The company’s smartphone sales have seen a decline of 15.4 percent annually. However, Samsung’s market share has registered a growth of 3 percent in the segment of Rs 50 thousand to Rs 67 thousand. The brand’s market share in this segment has increased to 24 percent as compared to 21 percent market share last year. At the same time, Apple has a one-sided rule in this segment as well. Apple remains the market leader in this segment with 61 percent market share.
5G smartphones sold a lot
According to IDC’s report, the demand for 5G smartphones has increased significantly in the Indian smartphone market. This quarter, the share of 5G smartphones has increased to 77 percent, which was 49 percent last year. A total of 27 million units of 5G smartphones have been sold in the Indian market in the quarter ended in June.
