New Delhi. Approval has been given to prosecute the country’s famous writer Arundhati Roy under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vikey Saxena on Friday approved prosecution against Roy and Dr. Sheikh Shaukat Hussain, former professor of International Law at the Central University of Kashmir. A case was registered against both of them in 2010.
Let us tell you that a case was registered against both of them on the complaint of Sushil Pandit on 28 October 2010. Roy and Hussain had allegedly given inflammatory speeches at a conference held at LTG Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi on 21 October 2010 under the banner of ‘Azadi – The Only Way’.
LG Saxena, in October 2023 last year, had authorised prosecution of writer Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Sheikh Shaukat Hussain for allegedly making ‘inflammatory speeches’. Saxena noted that a prima facie case is made out against Roy and Hussain under sections 153A, 153B and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
