According to news agency ANI, between 11 and 13 June 2024, the Customs Department has seized 10.50 kg of smuggled gold in 15 cases. Officials said that in one case gold dust was mixed with wax and brought to India. Smuggled gold was also being brought to India in the form of jewellery and gold bars. Gold bars were being brought hidden in the wheels of trolley suitcases. At the same time, gold was also hidden in the bus bringing them to the airport. However, they could not escape the eyes of the vigilant officers of the Customs Department.

5 Indians arrested
The Customs Department has arrested 5 Indians in the gold smuggling case. 4 of them had come to Mumbai from Jeddah and one person had come to India from Dubai. All these people had brought gold dust hidden in wax. Officials said that it was 24 carat gold. When these passengers were thoroughly checked, the consignment of gold was recovered. How do they smuggle gold?
The trend of gold smuggling has changed a lot. The biggest change is in the quantity of gold. Earlier, two to five kilos of gold was recovered from smugglers. Now smugglers are bringing an average of 600 grams of gold. The methods are also different. According to customs rules, arrest is made if goods worth Rs 20 lakh or more are recovered. If goods worth less than this are recovered, the accused is released after taking a statement. In recent times, cases of gold smuggling have come to light at many airports in the country.
