What causes winter allergies: During the winter season, if you sneeze continuously without cold, have headache, itching in the skin, eyes, ears and nose, pain in the ears or rashes on the skin, then you may be a victim of allergy. Allergies that often occur in spring or summer season can trouble you even in winter season. Health experts say that due to changes in environment and lifestyle in the cold months, complaints of allergies or some fungal infections increase. The interesting thing is that the major reasons for the occurrence of this disease may be hidden in your house itself, of which you are not even aware.
Dr. Shruti Sharma, Internal Medicine Consultant at Yatharth Hospital, Greater Noida, says that many such patients come to hospitals in winter, who are ill due to allergies rather than any specific disease. In winter, the symptoms of allergy usually appear in the form of cold and cough, in such a situation it becomes difficult to differentiate between the two whether it is viral, flu or the effect of any virus or due to allergy. However, there are still some symptoms which are common.
These are the symptoms of allergy in winter
, Sneezing- frequent and excessive sneezing
, Congestion and runny nose
, Watering and itching of eyes – Burning sensation, appearance of dark circles around the eyes.
, Ear pain – This occurs due to congestion in the upper air passages.
, Sore throat – accompanied by dripping nose and burning sensation in the throat.
, Cough- Dry cough, sometimes wheezing is also felt along with it.
, Fatigue and Headache- Feeling tired and uncomfortable.
These are the major causes of allergy at home
Dr. Shruti says that in winter people generally go out of their homes less but there are so many allergens present in their homes that they easily fall prey to them.
dust particles- Usually these occur in hot and humid environments but in winter due to keeping the windows closed and high temperature inside the house, they increase and affect the health of the people.
mold- They develop in wet, humid areas like basements and bathrooms. These can also be in humidifiers or air conditioners. If people leave the bathroom wet after bathing and it remains wet throughout the day, or if steam comes out while heating water and gets accumulated in the bathroom, then there is still moisture. Due to this, the chances of causing allergy increases. Therefore, always wipe the bathroom after bathing, run a fan or keep ventilation.
In the fur of pets- The skin of pets sheds throughout the year, the possibility of this increases indoors in winter and is a major cause of allergies. Therefore, take special care of the cleanliness of pets in this season.
Cockroach: Some household insects can cause allergies, cockroaches are prominent among them. These are often found in the kitchen or bathroom. If there is moisture here, cockroaches grow rapidly. Therefore do not leave moisture.
