Hisar. 33 -year -old YouTuber and travel blogger Jyoti Malhotra of Hisar, Haryana, have been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Intelligence Agency (ISI) and sharing sensitive information. Hisar police arrested him on 17 May and produced him in the court, from where he was sent on five days police remand.
Hisar Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan told the media on Sunday that modern war is no longer limited to borders. Pakistani intelligence agents are trying to promote their publicity by recruiting influential people on social media. Based on the input from central agencies, Jyoti was arrested from New Agrasen Colony, Hisar. Jyoti had traveled to Pakistan many times and once. She was in touch with Pakistani operative.
He said, “We have taken her on five days police remand. We are analyzing her financial statements. She was in touch with the PIO during Indo-Pak tension. But she had no direct access to important military or defense information.”
According to police, Jyoti’s YouTube channel ‘Travel with Joe’ is popular with 3.77 lakh subscribers, and has 1.31 lakh followers on Instagram. Investigation revealed that he traveled to Pakistan in 2023 by receiving a visa through commission agents. There he met Pakistani High Commission official Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, who has recently been expelled from India.
SP Sawan clarified that Jyoti has so far not found any evidence of direct access to important military or defense information. However, Hisar is a strategic place, and even small information can be important for the enemy country. Police is investigating Jyoti’s financial transactions, social media accounts and video content. A team of cyber experts is analyzing his video to get important clues.
Investigation also revealed that Jyoti tried to present a positive image of Pakistan through social media and promote promotion against India. He maintained contact with Pakistani agents using encrypted platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat. Police are also investigating other suspects, who may be part of Jyoti’s network. Six other detectives from Haryana and Punjab have been arrested in the last one week.
