New Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will now get security under ‘Z’ category. According to Home Ministry sources, the security of the Chief Election Commissioner has been increased on the basis of the confidential report of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). However, the Home Ministry has not shared detailed information about the IB report on security concerns with the media. Under the ‘Z’ category security protocol, a total of 33 security personnel including CRPF commandos will be deployed for the security of Rajiv Kumar.
This includes 10 armed static guards deployed at Kumar’s residence, six private security officers (PSOs) providing round-the-clock security and 12 armed escort commandos working in three shifts. Additionally, two watchers and three trend drivers will be on standby in every shift to ensure Kumar’s safety.

According to sources, the decision to increase security of Rajiv Kumar has come amid increasing unrest in the political scenario ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Opposition parties like Trinamool Congress are continuously protesting against the Election Commission. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is a retired IAS officer of 1984 batch. He assumed charge as the 25th CEC on May 15, 2022. Earlier, he was appointed as the Election Commissioner on September 1, 2020. Before retiring, he spent most of his time in administrative roles in Bihar and Jharkhand. His work during his tenure in Jharkhand was highly appreciated.
