Which Vegetables Should not be Eaten Raw
1) Cabbage
Most people eat raw cabbage in salads, burgers and sandwiches. But this is one of those vegetables which should not be eaten raw. Raw cabbage may contain harmful bacteria like E.coli or Salmonella. Although awareness among people regarding this vegetable has increased a lot, but many people still eat it raw.
2) Taro leaves
These days, taro leaves are available in abundance in the market. Many types of traditional dishes can be prepared using these leaves. Reports say that these leaves may contain oxalate, which is an organic acid found in plants. If these leaves are eaten raw, it can cause kidney stones. However, when you cook these leaves properly, the oxalate level reduces significantly, hence they are considered safe to eat.
3) Spinach
Spinach, which fulfills the iron deficiency in the body, may sometimes contain E. coli bacteria which causes stomach ache and other digestive problems. Some people like to eat it in salad, which can cause harm to the body.
4) Broccoli
Lightly steaming or roasting broccoli retains its nutritional value. It also reduces the risk of digestive problems like gas and bloating. However, after expert advice, you can also eat it raw.
5) Capsicum
Raw capsicum also looks good in salad. However, its seeds may sometimes contain chemical residues or tapeworm eggs. In such a situation, cooking it helps in reducing these residues, making it safe to eat.
