Bunkers are usually built on the borders of the country so that a strong defence can be prepared to defeat the enemy but now a similar bunker will be built in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital and this time the enemy will be cancer. In order to increase the world class facilities for cancer patients in Safdarjung Hospital, a bunker will be built here and a high energy linear accelerator will be installed in it.
On 4 September, Safdarjung Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vandana Talwar inaugurated the construction of this radiation bunker. She said that all efforts are being made to make Safdarjung Hospital the best hospital for cancer treatment. Soon a separate oncology block will also be built in the hospital where all facilities related to cancer will be available under one roof.

He said that efforts are being made to make Safdarjung Hospital the best hospital in the country for cancer treatment. Soon the hospital will have a separate block of oncology, where all the facilities for the treatment of all types of cancer will be available under one roof.
Patients get free radiotherapy in Safdarjung
Every year, about 2500 new cancer patients are treated in Safdarjung Hospital by giving them completely free radiotherapy. Now, with the installation of this machine, not only will the radiation oncology department get strengthened, it will also improve the quality of cancer treatment. With this advanced machine, it will be easy to give intensity modulated radiation therapy, image guided radiation therapy, stereotactic radio surgery and targeted radiation treatments in dangerous tumors.
Apart from this high energy linear accelerator, preparations are also underway to bring a low energy linear accelerator and a CT simulator to Safdarjung Hospital.
This machine is quite expensive
Let us tell you that this machine installed in Safdarjung Hospital is very expensive and its cost is in crores. Till now this machine is in All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, where cancer patients are treated. Now with the arrival of this machine in Safdarjung Hospital, patients will get great convenience.
